Mike Howat is a painter currently based in Greenville, SC. His work explores themes of urbanization, Americana, and collective memory through architectural forms—using built environments as vessels to reflect personal histories and the evolution of place.

He earned his B.F.A. from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2014 and has exhibited nationally, with recent shows at Cove Street Arts, Greenhut Galleries (Portland, ME), the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, Talon Gallery (Portland, OR), Carrie Secrist Gallery (Chicago), and Nucleus Portland (PDX). He held a long-term residency at Kimball Jenkins (Concord, NH), and was the 2022 Artist-in-Residence at Gallery 263 (Cambridge, MA).

Since 2022, Howat has coordinated ArtReach at AVA Gallery & Art Center (Lebanon, NH), a program offering virtual studio visits and interviews with artists and curators. As an artist-curator, he’s organized exhibitions since 2018 and co-founded PILLAR Gallery + Projects in 2023, an exhibition space fostering contemporary art in New England. He relocated to South Carolina in 2025 and now works out of OYE Studios in Greenville.
